Cuttings Sampler Unit (CSU)
Depth-referenced sampling while drilling keeps your block model honest and reduces dilution
The CSU enables consistent, high-quality sampling for geological, geotechnical, and environmental analysis. The CSU is a novel and patented sampling unit designed to automatically collect and preserve drill cuttings during subsurface drilling operations. The CSU can be used in production and explorational drilling, as well as alongside core drilling, to collect depth-referenced, representative samples of drill cuttings at specified intervals. It reduces manual handling and improves sample consistency. And it’s designed to have minimal impact on the regular workflow in drilling operations.
How we do it
- Sampling while drilling — CSU collects undisturbed cuttings samples
at predefined intervals during production drilling. - Operational fit — CSU integrates with most types of drilling rigs, and with no material cycle-time penalty.
- ROI you can measure — Fewer waste tonnes per blast, more stable head grade, lower re-handling.
Key features
- Seamless integration with existing rigs and workflows
- Collects undisturbed cuttings samples (typ. 1.0–1.2 L)
- Modular cartridges & field-serviceable parts — quick swap, high uptime

Cuttings Sampler Emptier (CSE)
The CSU is emptied and cleaned using our dedicated on-site emptying unit called CSE. This process allows for fast setup of the CSU for new sampling operations.
Collected drill cuttings can be analyzed directly in the field or securely packaged and sent to a laboratory for further analysis.
The CSU has minimal impact on the drilling workflow. The only additional operational step is the emptying and cleaning the CSU and CSE, which is designed to be quick and non-disruptive.
SCS Mining & SCS Exploration
The CSU hardware is designed to work with our software, enabling planned, depth-referenced sampling during routine production drilling.
Using CSU with SCS Mining improves extraction efficiency and deepens understanding of the orebody. The result is higher profitability and potentially less haulage to waste/tailings facilities, which lowers CO₂ emissions.
Mining: The Coring Company’s hardware and software solution for the mining industry solves the “impossible” problem of real-time sampling during mining operations. Through our Cuttings Sample Unit and software application the mines can work with higher accuracy and profitability, through enhanced detailed mining information. It provides tighter grade control, fewer waste tonnes per blast, and higher ore recovery.
Exploration: The Coring Company’s Cuttings Sample Unit provides exploration teams with depth-referenced cuttings that support core targeting and early geometallurgical insights.
The Coring Company is the exclusive provider of the patented Cuttings Sampler Unit (CSU) and the Sample Control System (SCS) for Mining & Exploration.
